Naked 3 Tutorial

Hello lovelies

About a week ago I did a little post on the new Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay, and so I thought I'd also do a tutorial showing how I use this palette on a day to day basis.

Firstly, can we just take a moment to appreciate how well I managed to do the winged liner on this day? I usually avoid any form of eye liner because quite frankly I AM TERRIBLE at applying it. However, with a lot of concentration I pulled it off. Yay me! To find out more about what product I used, keep your eyes peeled next week.

Lets jump straight in there! As a base I used MAC limited edition Morning Frost paint pot and all shadows are from the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette.

I put Nooner (my favourite matte from the palette) all over the lid up to the crease using a standard fluffy brush.
Next, using my Real Techniques crease shadow brush I smoked the look out a bit using the beautiful Blackheart. This colour is a dark almost black colour with flecks of rose gold in it which add a nice shimmer to this otherwise matte shade.
To smooth it out I pushed some of Buzz over the centre of the lid adding that little bit extra to the look.

Finally, to highlight using a clean fluffy brush I used the lightest colour in the palette, Strange. This is great for the brow bone or the inner corner.

In case you were wondering I used the Benefit They're Real mascara and for the liner I used Sleek brow kit in Extra Dark. I like to do a light line with the powder and then when I'm happy, define it with the creamy product.

A short n sweet post for today. What'd'ya think? If you try it out do tweet me a picture! I would love to see you're no doubt better attempts than mine.

Until next time

Instagram

Hello lovelies

Happy almost weekend - thank goodness! I am so tired of this week and ready for it to end. Today's post, although I am reluctant to call it a post, is about Instagram.

As always I was one of the last to get IG when it was first released to the app store in 2012 but now I'm never off it. I have two accounts, my personal one and my @beautyshine16 one. That was a not so subtle hint for you to go and follow me!

I've noticed recently that there are so many 'themed' accounts around and my feed is full of them. Some of my favourites include:
@pinkandpastelxo
@pink_raspberry
@pastelandperfection
@vict0ria05
@sprinkleofsinead
Go and check them out and if you click the FOLLOW button, say I sent you!

I love the creativity and freedom that IG allows and although I love photography, I love makeup even more. SO I have started my very own theme account...

Blogger has destroyed the brightness settings so my pictures look slightly grey toned but I promise you they aren't. See for yourself by finding me on Instagram. I follow back!

Heads up for an eye shadow look using Naked 3 here on Saturday.

Until next time

I Love Candles!

Hello lovelies!

I mentioned in my last post that I love candles, and that I would do a post on some of my favourites very soon. Here is that post.

I have quite a few to my name so I thought I would just do a sort of mini-review on my current top three. The first one, is that mentioned in my What I got For Christmas post. 'Wild Orchid and Plum' from NEXT.

I would link it for you apart from the fact I cannot find it anywhere online. If you see it around let me know because it smells beautiful.The simple, sophisticated labeling on this glass jar is so elegant, I just love it! It also has great burn time; I had it lit for a good hour or so and it barely made a dent in the wax. A good one that'll last a while I think.

Next, unfortunately I can't photograph because I burnt it out, is the Yankee candle in the fragrance Black Cherry. I've realised that I'm quite the fan of Cherry scented things. Talking of which..

My final favourite at the moment is this adorable little candle called Cherry Sorbet. My mum bought this for me at Christmas, I've no idea what brand it is or where you can buy it but isn't it just so cute? It smells great too. This is definitely the perfect gift for your Mum/sister/Auntie/best friend.

Are you as addicted as me to candles? Or am I just a bit weird? Hmm!

I'm currently very active on my new themed IG account and Twitter too, so follow me @beautyshine16.

Until next time

What I got for Christmas 2013

Hello lovelies!

It's a little late but I have been meaning to do this post since Boxing Day! Ahh, I'm slack. Today I'd like to share with you just some of my favourite gifts I was lucky enough to receive from family and friends this (last) year.

So I'm not really one of those people who thinks of Christmas and thinks of getting presents, I don't get up really early to see what's under the tree or wake up my brother. In fact, I didn't get up until 10.30am this year and the first thing I did was go out and feed my horse! My favourite part of Christmas is spending a whole day with my family. Receiving a gift is great but I more enjoy giving. I like to go through the process of picking something out I think the person will love, wrapping it up in cute paper and tying it with shiny ribbons - yes, I am one of those people. The best part is definitely seeing the persons face and knowing you chose well. HOWEVER, this year I was more than happy to be given the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. My favourite present. You can read more about this in the review I wrote here

My Auntie knows me well you know, three out of five gifts featured in this post are from her. She bought me this stunning silver heart necklace which I am loving wearing! It's beautiful. I love all sparkly pieces like this.

She also gave me the Soap & Glory Clean on Me body wash which I have wanted to try for a while but am still currently enjoying my Sugar Crush bottle. I do love me some S&G skin products though. Thank you!!

Next up is this luxury candle from NEXT. If you didn't know (you clearly don't know me) then let me tell you, I. Love. Scented candles. I got given quite a few at Christmas and I have them all around my room and light them regularly. Who doesn't love a good candle? This one smells so luxurious and sophisticated. I feel like an adult. Oooh! I will be doing a post all about my favourite candles very soon.

A funny story about this is that my brother originally got me a different candle, one which I found (yes, I went snooping) and loved! But he never got around to wrapping it up and so my Mum had to do all his present wrapping and gave me this one, meant for somebody else, and gave mine to the other person since I'd already seen it. That'll teach me for snooping! I am grateful for this one just as much though.

And finally, this Sweet Pea & Honeysuckle hand cream from Heathcote & Ivory (another brand I like a lot) is also from my brother. Well.. I threw it in his basket and told him to wrap it up for me. If I didn't give massive hints like that he would be stuck for ideas, right? The packaging is so beautiful and I can't wait to start using this when I get through my current tube. I love me some hand cream. Yippee :)

I hope you all had a good Christmas, leave me either your favourite gift you received or gave, or your favourite memory from 2013 in the comments below.

Until next time

Naked 3!

Hello lovelies

Oh my goodness it's the 21st January and this is my first post of 2014! So we're almost one month in and i'm finally getting around to saying HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Today I've got a post that I have been looking forward to writing for so long. Unless you have been living under a rock you will know that the end of 2013 saw the release of the long awaiting rose gold tinted third addition to the famous Urban Decay Naked palette set.

From the moment I heard about this product it was on my wish list and I am so thankful to my family for gifting it to me at Christmas. Best. Present. Ever.

I thought I would wait a while before reviewing the shadows though, because who wants to read yet another post when you're in the middle of a hype? Not me. I've given myself time to use the product (and trust me, I've been using it pretty much every day) and to decide if it was worth all the begging (it was).

*Sigh* So beautiful...

OK, starting with the packaging, similarly to Naked 2, it's an embossed, metal container in a beautiful rose tinted shade with gold writing. It's perfect for on the go because it's strong and protective, but also a pain because it's rather big. I personally think the casing is unattractive on the Naked 2 palette in comparison to others but with this one the slight change in colour makes all the difference, besides it's much more secure and sturdy so I wont complain. A four out of five UD. Well done.

The shadows are set out with the lightest highlighting colour ("Strange") on the left through to the darkest crease colour ("Blackheart") on the right. Every single shade is wearable on any skin tone. Each shadow is equally beautiful and easy to use whether it be on a day to day basis or for a special occasion.

The shadow of my iPhone slightly ruins this picture but I like it all the same. You can see the how pigmented the shadows are in this image, as with all Urban Decay eyeshadows, particularly the shimmery ones. The matte shades, although less pigmented, have just as much colour pay off and used with any primer lasts all day (to me a full day at college, from leaving at 8am to getting home at 5pm).

All in all this is a great palette for makeup lovers of any age, good for any time of day and as always provides fantastic pigmentation and pay off for hours *when used on top of a primer*. I am absolutely loving using it and I recommend it. My favourite day time combination is 'Nooner' all over the lid, 'Factory' in the crease and 'Burnout' dusted on the top. Do you have this palette? What's your favourite look? Do you have a different opinion? Let me know!

Until next time
